How to link a Phone Call activity with follow-up activity

Question
-
Hi all,
I am new to CRM, so please forgive me if my question sound's silly. In our CRM in Phone Call activity if a follow up needs to be done then there is a button called Follow up. Now in the follow-up activity which can be any activity including phone call, there is no reference of the activity which triggered the follow up activity. I want to develop some mechanism which will identify the parent of the follow up activity. either in the Notes or description section having the GUID of the activity , time & name of the activity. Please suggest me how can I do this. Thanks in advance.

Amar,
You bring up a feature that would be very desirable. There isn't any way to do this without writing custom code that I know of. Either you need to intercept the built in button or add your own button for 'Related Followup" and have it pass the current phone call record info to the new follow-up.

Hi Amar,
For what it's worth, the 'Follow up' feature has been depricated in CRM2011 as there is the new ability to add relationships to activity entities, which would allow you to add a parent activity in the way you are trying to do. So whatever solution you develop in V4, be mindful of how it works in CRM2011.

Hi Jerry ,
If you could suggest me some way by which I could intercept the built in button to do the functionality.
Rob thanks for the responce but implementation of 2011 will take few month's for us.
Please suggest me some way to do it by writing a custom functionality (by workflow) or anything for that matter.
Thanks
