yet another validation error post...

Question
-
I’m not very tech savvy so this may seem a bit muddled.
Here’s my problem: I bought a Compaq Presario V6000 notebook from my local Best Buy in June that came with Vista pre-installed. I haven’t had any major problems with it until today, when I was asked to enter my product key.
I’ve had the notebook for around 30 days, so I assume I was prompted to enter the key in order to register the notebook. I’d never attempted to enter it before then. The only other time I’d been prompted to do so was when I was using the Anytime Upgrade DVD that was included with my laptop, but it wasn’t required so I just skipped it.
At any rate, I entered the product key found on the sticker on the bottom of my computer and received a message saying that my code was invalid and that my copy of Vista wasn’t genuine.
I tried re-entering the code in case I’d made a typo or something.
That failed.
I tried activating it over the phone.
That failed, too.
I went to the Microsoft/genuine webpage and tried validating it.
Failed again.
Finally, after browsing several of the threads here on this board, I attempted an inplace upgrade using the method described here: http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1868318&SiteID=25
That failed as well.
I’m just about at wit’s end at this point. I just don’t know what else to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Here is my Microsoft/genuine validation error code: [0xC004C4A8]
And here’s my diagnostic report:

Please try phone activating and speak with a customer service representative when you're given the option. You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4" in the search field in the Start Menu and pressing Enter.
Please click “Validate Windows” here: www.microsoft.com/genuine and follow the prompts.
This should resolve the issue. Please let me know if this works for you.
Thanks,

Question: Is the Product Key found on the COA affixed to your computer for Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium? Just reply yes or no and do not post the key. If it is not for Windows Vista Home Premium, is it for Windows Vista Home Basic?Wednesday, July 18, 2007 7:13 PMModerator

I've already tried activating it over the phone (see my original post) without success. I'll try it again, but I'm not holding out much hope of it working...Wednesday, July 18, 2007 8:42 PM

I've been having the exact problem and it's very frustrating. I also have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and I get the same validation error code. My diagnostic report is here along with some others who are having the same problem.Thursday, July 19, 2007 3:16 PM
