WGA ActiveX error RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I start Microsoft Update, I am redirected to the installer for the WGA ActiveX object. After trying to install it, the site displays an error message saying that something went wrong with the ActiveX object. How do I make it work? I really need Microsoft Update to work properly.

  • Hello pdedecker,

I think we probably have exhausted all of the Quick Fix kind of stuff that we can do here on the forum.

Luckily, official Microsoft WGA support was recently expanded from just email to chat and phone, too, so at this point I think your best bet would be to visit http://support.microsoft.com/gp/contactwga and choose your preferred contact method for more in-depth support.

Please come back when everything is fixed to let us know how they fixed the problem :-)

  • Hello pdedecker,

Please visit this site http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/default.aspx? and run the diagnostic tests, which check for browser and operating system conditions that may be interfering with the WGA and OGA utilities.

Please come back to tell us the results.

  • Everything says "Passed" except "Windows validation ActiveX loaded", which is stuck on "Checking".

  • Are you sure that this app will help? I'd rather not have this spying and aggressive piece of software on my computer, given that I can't uninstall it or close it. Shouldn't having the WGA BHO be enough?

  • The Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool is not listed in the add-on window, neither as enabled nor disabled.

  • Validation Not Completed: ActiveX Error

There are several reasons why validation may not have succeeded.

    • The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Tool requires the user account to have administrative privileges on the computer.
    • The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Tool requires access and is unable to communicate with the Microsoft validation servers. Please click here to learn more about troubleshooting your antivirus, antispyware, Internet Explorer and firewall settings.
