Project 2010 - Updating Custom field data from SP, but ms pro still showing no data RRS feed

  • Question

  • I created two task level custom fields(Cost and Date type, with no formula/Indicators).

    1. Previous Task Cost

    2. Previous Finish Date

    Variable for these fields were CFVal20 and CFVal21 in dbo.MSP_EpmCPTaskVar0. A stored procedure was created to update these custom field automatically every weekend.

    Query was:
    UPDATE t
      SET t.CFVal20 = ISNull(TaskCost, 0),
       t.CFVal21 = ISNull(TaskFinishDate, Null)
     FROM dbo.MSP_EpmCPTaskVar0 t
     LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.MSP_EpmTask s ON s.TaskUID = t.EntityUID;

    I checked the DB([ProjectServer_Reporting].[dbo].[MSP_EpmTask_UserView]) and I see the data was copied from task cost/finish date to my custom fields. However when I open Ms Project Professional, I still see 0 for Previous Cost and NA for Previous Finish.

    Can somebody please help?

    I am using MS Project 2010 - Version 14.0.6129.5000(32-bit)

  • Hi,

    If I understand you correctly you are updating Project Server Databases directly, let me tell you frankly it is not recommended by Microsoft to update Project Server Databases directly.It is not supported by Microsoft.

    You can use PSIs to develop custom application to update your custom fields automatically.

    For reference you can use below links

    Custom Fields: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/websvccustomfields_di_pj14mref.aspx

    Lookup tables: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/websvclookuptable_di_pj14mref.aspx

    Also below example is on PS 2007 but you can use this as it is on PS 2010 as well

    Thanks also please correct me in case I am wrong in my understanding
