Valid copy suddenly becomes "non-genuine" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased my laptop from a legitimate and reputable computer business in Australia around June 2010, and it has been working fine up until yesterday when Windows 7 suddenly claimed my copy was not genuine. My computer came installed with Vista and I was supplied with a Windows 7 upgrade disc (by the manufacturer of the laptop, Acer, provided free when you guys were offering free upgrades) which I installed myself and was recognised as a genuine copy. I'm unsure as to why all of a sudden this is not being accepted as genuine, the only thing i can think of is that yesterday Office asked me if it wanted to install updates automatically and I clicked yes. I've already installed numerous patches and updates from you guys without a problem, and when i try to enter my product key to re-register my genuine copy it says my key is no longer valid, the only solution it is suggesting is purchasing an entirely new copy. I now live in Canada and would prefer to not have to organise things overseas with the computer store and wait to get a new disc shipped out to me over here. Here is my diagnostic information, Thanks.

  • The key is reflected as being blocked by this error code HrOnline: 0xC004C4A2, Darin may have more information on why it was blocked. I suggest you wait for Darin's response and then use the information he provides to contact the manufacturer or the vendor (whoever  actually provided the disk) if appropriate.
