Automatically Sync a USB Drive using SyncToy RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I am using SyncToy to automatically sync files and folders to my USB thumb drive.

    I think an excellent enhancement to SyncToy, would be to give it the automatic ability to sync a thumb drive every time it was plugged in to the computer.

    This could mean that the SyncToy program should run in the background, either as a service and/or as a small TSR program with an icon on the taskbar.

    This would increase its functionality and usefulness for me and probably for a lot of other people as well, esp. since the built in Sync-Center for Vista won't sync files and folders.

  • BlackWolf, I totally agree with you - like yourself, I too would like to automatically sync files on my flash drive to various folders on my HD.  For now, I guess we'll have to deal with manually performing the tasks.

    As I am a new user to SyncToy, I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks you've learned about syncing USB drives to other media.

    Thanks for any insights you can provide.

  • Try creating a file named AUTORUN.INF on the root of the USB drive and then type in the following text (or change to make allowances for where you have installed SyncToy):

    [autorun]
    open=c:\program files\synctoy 2.0\synctoycmd -R

    This working fine for me everytime I insert the USB drive.

    Good luck.
