lead contact

Question

Hello
I have a problem and I don't know if there is a bug, as designed or I do something wrong. If I have a contact on a lead, and I try to create the contact from contact form, and I choose Leadsource, my lead, the contact doesn't appear on the contact list from the lead.
I saw that there is a field parent customer, which only can be an account or orher contact.
Punctual problem is that I try to import some contacts but I cannot link them to the lead.

Hi Cosminc,
I just created a 1:N-relation between lead and contact (Display Option: Use Plural Name, Type of Behaviour: Referential, Restrict Delete) and added the new field (Parent Lead) to the contact form
After this I was able to update a Contact with a Parent Lead and in this Lead I was able to see this contact in the leads contact list.
Best regards,
Jürgen

I'm not sure I understand your question but it seems to me your working in the wrong direction.Leads get converted to contacts when leads are qualified. When leads are converted to contacts the "Originating Lead" field is already set.You should never need to link a contact to a lead manually. Is your system customized to do this?Hassan

Hi Cosminc,
in standard there is no contact list in a lead form. Have you created one?
In Standard you can import contacts with their originating lead by using this information in the import csv file.

I can import contacts with leadsource, I don't have a problem with that, but how will I see the after, I will have in my contacts list, 2000 contacts, and I will not be able to know which contact is linked to which lead.
Our leads are companies not people. So i must have a list of contacts to every lead.

Hi Cosminc,
in the concept of Dynamics CRM Leads are no Companies and does not have contacts.
How have you customized your CRM system to add this behaviour? If this is not clear it is not possible to help you.

Jürgen

I had a similar problem when importing lead, account and contact data from one system to MS CRM.
The old system distinguished between leads and accounts, both can have additional contacts.
As Jürgen said before, the idea behind MS CRM-leads is slightly different as one might expect.
In MS CRM a "lead with contacts" is an account, because of existing "active" business relationship to this company/person.
Finaly we convertet "lead with contacts" to:
Old system's leads without contacts -> MS CRM - lead
Old system's leads with contacts -> MS CRM - account, status: "potential customer"
With this logic in mind, no customisation is required.
