Need XP CD for valid OEM product key on refurbished Dell computer. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased a refurbished Dell from a legitimate company which had the hard drive wiped clean.  It have an OEM Product Key for XP Home Edition that I was assured is valid.  How do I get an XP CD w/o repaying for a license?  Is a recovery disk from eBay or Amazon the only option?

  • Hello Rick645,

Request original Dell OS Reinstallation disc from Dell:  http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/backupcd_form?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1

  • You can find the Dell XP discs on eBay for a decent price, but also if you happen to have one it will work too. I recommend you get a Dell XP install disc since that will 100% work and install and activate on a Dell without even asking for a product key. You can use just about any disc to reinstall XP and make it take your legit key but sometimes it's a hassle.
