Deleting a onecare backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have tried the steps outlined here:  http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecarebackupandrestore/thread/f0281206-ed0b-474c-8541-cc50843e5be2

I am running Vista and backing up to a USB drive with a letter of E.  When I try to go through the steps in Explorer, when I apply the changes I am told that access is denied.  I am a machine admin and a domain admin for what it is worth.

When I try the command line approach, I get a return saying "processed dir: e:\windows onecare backup" followed by a line saying "access is denied".

I really don't want to format this drive.  I just want Onecare's backup deleted.

    I am running Vista.

    What am I doing wrong?

  • Try applying the steps outlined for taking ownership of the folders starting at the lowest level of the branch:

    \Folder\Folder\backup.zip

Select the files inside the folder and right click/properties ... permissions, advanced, etc.
Repeat by selecting the folder containing those files
Repeat for any folders and files at the same level within the top level
Repeat for the parent folder, typically \Windows Live OneCare backup\ or similar.

Once you've applied the permissions successfully, start at the file level deleting the files, then the folder, then finally the empty parent folder.

Failing that, contact support for help.
