CRM 4 Export for Re-Import Not Available RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have built a clean MSCRM4 on premise system, single organisation. When I try to export data from a view by pressing the Excel button I get a dialogue box with these options:

    • Static worksheet with records from this page
    • Static worksheet with records from all pages in the current view
    • Dynamic PivotTable : [Select Columns]
    • Dynamic worksheet : [Edit Columns]

    [Export] [Cancel]

However, according to the help and a VPC image of a CRM v4 RC0 system I have, I am supposed to also get a checkbox labelled "Make this data available for re-import by including required columns" just before the Export/Cancel buttons. I have tried this on a variety of entities (Account, Contact, etc) with a user with full access rights (System Admin).

What do I have to do to make this facility (export for re-import) available?

PS. I have screen shots but I don't know how to paste them in to this message.

    Hi,

This is the response I gathered from other forum

Message written by Nick Johnson in titan.CTP2 newsgroup:

    =======
Thank you for the feedback regarding the enriching data option.

I should let you know that the "enriching data" feature will not be
included in the final release of 4.0. It was included in beta versions,
however it did not make it to the final build.  You'll find that the option
to mark a record for re-import when exporting to Excel is no longer there.
In addition the import wizard no longer recognizes records that should be
    updated versus created.

We'll be looking at the feature for the next version of CRM.

    Thanks,
    Nick

So, which means that we have to create our CRM <---> Excel connector.

  • Thanks for this feedback. Is this newsgroup externally available? Can you provide the URL for it?

The "Whats new in CRM v4" document plus the RTM release help for v4 say that this feature is present. Also, if I manually prepare an Excel file with the entity guid in column 1, then on import the "Enrich data by updating records rather than creating new records" appears. So I am not 100% convinced this is the case.

Strange they should pull this rather useful feature.

  • Hi Mike,

URL is not accessable - as this is for internal usage.  see this post
