Windows Validation Direct X

Question
-
Well, I bought my computer in July of 2005, and never had any problems till the last windows update. I'm in need to update DirectX 9.0c, but it's not letting me because its saying that I have a "pirated" copy of windows. I really can't buy windows right now, is there any other way of getting directX9.0cFriday, June 30, 2006 4:28 PM

Do you have a COA sticker on your computer? COA information can be found here (www.howtotell.com) if you need examples and descriptions.
Is the COA for XP Pro?

To help me understand the issue further can you please follow the steps below?
1. Download and run the WGA Diagnostic Tool http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012
2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard". Paste the results into your forum response.

nigelnyc,
Occasionally we have had some customers that purchased valid copies of Windows or received them when purchasing an OEM system but failed validation. In most cases this has been determined to be the result of the actual Product Key used to install the current version of Windows XP to be blocked. This most often has occurred by the computer being repaired and a Blocked Product Key being used on the computer at that time.
To confirm there are no other blocking issues with your validation such as clock out of synch or IE settings blocking the validation process please run the WGA Diagnostics located here:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/
If everything here is confirmed as functioning properly and you still have issues validating could you please run the wgadiag tool here and post the information for us.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012
Without actually posting your Product Key in this post compare the last 15 characters of your COA to the last 15 characters in the Diag output. If they are not the same you will have to change the product key. The easiest way to do this without having to re-install applications or lose data is to refer to the Repair Method in this KB Article.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341/en-us
Warning: as with any such major procedure it is highly recommended you backup all critical/personal data on your computer that you would not want to lose and ensure you have the software to re-install your applications should something happen.
We can also attempt to change the key using the Product Key Update tool below. The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key – all without a reinstall! http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50346&clcid=0x409
Note: This is provided no core system files are corrupted. If they are you will need to complete a clean install of your system
Your Office suite looks to be non genuine also.

Nigelnyc,
That's because it is not genuine.
Nongenuine installations of XP are denied manual updating at Windows Updates, although security related critical updates are still pushed out to you if you have Automatic Updates set.
Also, nice-to-have downloads like Windows Defender, Direct X9 etc are also denied to nongenuine installations of XP.
More bad news, your installation of Office XP Pro is also showing as nongenuine (Status=114 is nongenuine).
If your XP or Office turning up as nongenuine comes as a surprise to you, may I suggest returning to the point of purchase and discussing the problem with the seller and demanding satisfaction? If you paid for genuine software, you certainly did not get it.

Wow, why me ? :( So the key update tool is out of the question.Friday, June 30, 2006 5:49 PM

Nigelnyc,
A lot of red-faced hollering at the place of purchase might get their attention and get you genuine software, assuming that you paid for it and got cheated out of it by the merchant.
I'd holler too to save $149 for XP and $350 for Office, which is what they would cost to get genuine on your own.

Haha, yeah. I'm going to try to get this problem solved.Friday, June 30, 2006 6:02 PM
