Windows 7 says "not a legal copy"

Question
-
Last month Win 7 updated itself & after 5 1/2 hours of installing the updates, yes 5 1/2 hours, it returned a "this Win 7 is an illegal copy". I thought this preposterous, shut down the computer & turned it on again and it worked. This week the computer will not turn on & there had been no warning from Microsoft that this would happen. I called Microsoft and was not given 10 seconds to explain my situation before being called a "software thief" by a foreign woman - I immediately hung up. I'm writing this on a friend's computer and I'm looking at my legal copy of Win Vista & my legal copy of Win 7 upgrade DVDs along with the receipts. And no I haven't installed either operating system on any other computer.
Four years ago I won an Xbox on a major auto sales web site. When it was delivered it failed to work, Microsoft would not repair it as "the warranty had expired”! The department of Fair Trading sorted that one out.
I now have zero confidences in the Microsoft Corporation. Its own registration database is flawed. Its practices alienate honest customers. Twice now, they have personally insulted me over the phone when I’ve complained about my legally bought or won products. Their customer service lacks the professionalism that one expects from a major corporation.
This will never happen again for today I am shopping for an apple mac. Though Microsoft will certainly hear from Fair Trading very soon about the Win 7 matter.

Hardware can also be flawed, as I found out about my MacBook Pro a couple of years ago.
