Is it possible to show a related entity as a field in a column? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I was hoping someone could offer me a little help please? In advanced view if i drill down to the related entity and select a field I get the desired result, however i want to display this exact field as a column?  I have gone in to the add columns screen and added all columns in leads, and have added all related fields from the related entity and still cant see the field?

    Is this even possible?

In advanced find i can see the field.

Now in adding columns i cant see the backup system field?

  • Hey,

Do you have checked of the research option is available for the field ?

To check this point, go to customization / Entity / Fields / Check the option.

"Backup System" is a text field ?

  • Hi,

Sorry for the late reply I have been away.  Yes it is a text field.

Surely you should  be able to add any column you want? why would it give you the option to search for a specific field and not be able to show that field in a column?

  • Hi,

Are you sure that the "Backup System" field is a text field in that entity. They way it looks to me in the advanced search window you are choosing to search for a specific Backup System object (by guid). If you select the "Enter Value" field in that search, do you get to enter free text or choose a specific record.

Just off the top of my head I'm guessing that the field you would want to display is "name".

  • hello, many thanks for your prompt reply.  Yes you are correct cannot enter the text and it only lets you select a field.  I will upload a few screenshots.

In advanced view I select the backup system in related entity

I then select the backup system field

    Then choosing the backup system.

What I am trying to do is to show the selected field in a column, I have tried adding all columns but that particular field is not showing in any of the columns.

  • Try to Understand the Field has been Added in View as Column Name But Instead of Backup System
Actually by Default Primary Key in a Entity set as Name and it also Show in View as Name Column

I know may you have change the Field name as Backup System but Schema name is Still Name.

  • Hi,

Like Muhammad says, the field name is "Name" (and has schema name "new_name" so you have probably created it in the default solution). You may have changed the label on the form but the name of the field is still name.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you guys, however when I have tried adding the 'name' column it does not show the field?

I have selected the backup system value as other.

However the name column is empty?

I have tried to add all fields in the Created by (User), Existing Backup System (Backup System) and Lead in the columns, however this 'other' field was not showing in any column.

  • It is correct however because if I open up the record that it has found, the backup system is showing as 'other'

  • This is a bit weird. Do you have both N:1 and 1:N connections between lead and the backup system entities and the one you are seeing there is in the 1:N connection while the N:1 connection is empty (a lookup field)?
