  • As Noel has mentioned, if you search the internet for the last 15 digits of the product key, you will find over 10 pages of websites that have the key listed.  This key is Leaked to the Internet and is therefore, Non-Genuine.

The only resolution to any problem you may have with your current (non-genuine) copy of Windows, is to remove the Non-genuine Windows and use a legitimate copy of Windows.

    Thank you,

You have an Apple computer – and have a Volume License for Windows XP.
Such Volume Licenses are ALWAYS upgrades – therefore you are required to have a pre-existing license for Windows valid on that computer.
Not only that, but you also have a file mismatch in a critical system file, which implies that either your system is infested by malware, or you are using a hack in an attempt to bypass activation/validation requirements.
The fact that the Key has been published on PirateBay indicates that the problem is at your end, rather that that of MS.

You need to install a legitimate, legal copy of XP.

  • Thanks to everyone for your help.  I bought this on Ebay unopened and assured it was authentic.  I guess you can't trust these kinds of items on Ebay.  So, when I buy a legitimate version of Windows, probably Windows 7 now, will the new install process take care of uninstalling this old version?

You will need to purchase a Full Retail license.
Boot using the DVD, and you will be offered the option to to a Custom install – you will have the opportunity to format the drive at that time.

  • Hello fghfghfgh,

You asked, "will the new install process take care of uninstalling this old version?"

Probably not, as most likely you have installed Windows on an Apple computer using their BootCamp method.

In this case, ideally you would want to completely remove the nongenuine Windows using whatever facility is built into BootCamp to do this, then restart to make sure your Apple system is functioning properly.

Once you have established that your Apple system is back to normal, go thru the BootCamp procedure again to install Windows, this time of course using Genuine Windows purchased from a trusted local or major, name brand online retailer.

When your Windows is up and running, rerun the mgadiag and post its report in the corresponding forum for verification that it is Genuine :-)
