Windows Validation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased my copy of XP Pro several years ago (2003 if I remember correctly), installed it and it was validated. For the past year or more whenever I try to get the latest updates the Microsoft site tells me I have an illegal copy of XP. I can't remember when I first started getting the message, but it has been at least a year. Windows update still updates so I haven't been overly anxious to pursue this problem with Microsoft and to tell you the truth the only reason I am doing it today is that it is raining here and I'm at "loose ends". I just read ZDNets article regarding Validation problems and thought I would add my comments. (Perhaps I won't because for the most part they are/would be derogatory.

After viewing all the information on your site regarding illegal copies, (in my view) I have a legal copy and would be more than happy to send it to you via registered mail for your verification as well. I live in Canada but will send it to wherever you wish.

I ran the Validation program and have attached it for your perusal. The product key IS the number on my package.

  • Unfortunately, it seems you have been made a victim of software counterfeiting. This isn't an OEM copy. This is a Volume License copy, which are reserved for large corporate use and business use. Also, the exact product key is not a real Volume License Product Key, as its been made by a key generator that is not Microsoft Sanctioned.

1 I would recommend heading back to your retail point to remedy the issue. There are a few other options as well:

2 Filing a counterfeit report at www.microsoft.com/genuine (click Validate, then click "See all options). - This may qualify you for a free WGA Kit with a high quality counterfeit report (examples can be found at www.howtotell.com)

3 Purchasing a genuine copy directly from a reseller or from us.

I'm sorry for the trouble, but I do hope you submit the counterfeit report and recieve your free WGA kit.
