Installing SP1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • In my dev environment, I have a host machine that serves as the head and broker node, then I have two hyper-v images that serve as compute nodes. I'd like to install SP1 on the compute nodes.

Do I need to uninstall anything off the compute nodes first before installing SP1? If I create a job on the head node and it's task is to run clusrun and install SP1 will this install to the compute nodes correctly?

    Thanks!

  • We only support 2 methods of patching Compute Nodes with V3 RTM and moving to SP1.

    1) Patch your Head Node (thereby updating the REMINST network share) and then reimaging the compute nodes (or assigning them a new template with an OS).

    OR

    2) If you don't want to flatten your machines you will then need to login to each machine and manually patch them - running setup from the REMINST on the Head Node.

To install HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP1 on existing compute nodes and broker nodes, you can do one of the following:

    • Redeploy the nodes by using a method such as assigning a node template that reimages the node and installs HPC Pack 2008 R2 with SP1 using the installation files from the head node.
    • Run the HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP1 installation program (HPC2008R2_SP1.exe) on individual nodes. For example you can copy HPC2008R2_SP1.exe to a shared folder such as \\headnodename\SP1 and then access the existing compute nodes and broker nodes by Remote Desktop Connection to install the service pack from the shared folder.
