  • You have around missing files in the part of the system that SFC managed to scan, and another 10 that are corrupted - which is possibly 75% of the system.

With that level of corruption, I really think your best bet is going to be a repair install of the system.

Download the SP1 Refresh for your language and edition from the links on these pages...

Heidoc - Microsoft DR Download links

The links are for downloads from the Digital River servers run for MS, so are about as safe as you can get :)

Once you have it downloaded, you then need to burn the DVD from it - use either the Windows Disk Image Burner, or (better still) your favourite burning application at the
    slowest speed possible.

Note that you do NOT 'drag and drop' the file to the disk, you must use the 'burn an image'
option from your app - or you'll end up with a useless coaster :)

Once you have the disk burnt, check that it boots the (or any other) system OK - but do NOT start
the repair from there - you must start the repair from within a normal Windows boot.

Follow the instructions in this tutorial - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

    - and they shouldhelp you get through it (it's not as difficult as it looks!)

Always ask questions first if you're unsure - either here, or in sevenforums.

    Good luck with it!

  • If you use the Custom install, it may not work, and you'll be left without a functional computer.

Use the built-in Recovery system instead - this will wipe the drive, so back up data to external media  first!

Check your manual for details of how to access the recovery system

  • The non-genuine status will return unless we manage to fix it first :)

Your original report showed the presence of RemoveWAT - please first run WATFix  to ensure that you completed the removal properly...

Download WATFix - make sure that you UNTICK the box for the 'download manager, and click on the link on the left of the page, not the big shiny button on the right (which is an ad for the download manager!!) - and use that - extract the .exe file, and run it, then reboot.

Post back with another MGADiag report, and we'll then see what we can do.

  • The remaining problem is this....

    Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slui.exe|slui.exe.mui|COM Registration

To confirm that the problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window and post the results.

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • That all looks normal to me.

Let's see what a file system check does for us....

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    CHKDSK C: /R

    and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,

and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

    then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

  • Chkdsk came back with no errors.

    Sfc came back to this

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

    C:\windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 20% complete.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

    C:\windows\system32>

and here is the cbs log file

  • I tried to do all that. I made the DVD using (Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 U (media refresh) that I downloaded) tried to do the Upgrade install and it stopped while it was expanding windows files to 18% and said that I didnt have the appropriate files to complete the upgrade. Then after it restarted to undo the setup this message came up:

"This version of Windows could not be installed." Your previous version of Windows has been restored, and you can continue to use it. Before trying to install this version of Windows again, check online to see if it is compatible with your computer. Go to the Microsoft website and search for "upgrade advisor"."

Should I choose the "Custom" install? that way everything gets deleted and I have a new clean copy of windows?

    Thursday, March 14, 2013 1:38 PM
  • If you use the Custom install, it may not work, and you'll be left without a functional computer.

Use the built-in Recovery system instead - this will wipe the drive, so back up data to external media  first!

Check your manual for details of how to access the recovery system
