Good Morning Pnlhisey,
First I would like for you to run the MGA Diagnostic Tool and provide us with your results. This will allow us to see what you are experiencing. Curious what Internet Browser program do you use for surfing the internet? Please use IE 7 for trying to download the new Direct X program and validation process. Please follow the steps below as it could resolve your issue. If need be, provide us with additional information to determine the cause of this issue.
Make sure you are logged on as an Administrator.
Confirm you are using the most current version of Genuine Advantage by clicking Validate Windows on the website below:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine
If the above steps do not resolve your issue, continue below.
Please run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Test (MGADT) so that I may analyze the results.
By clicking the link below, you will download the MGADT. Then click the Run button. Then click the Run button again. Then click the Continue button to perform the diagnostic. The Windows tab should show, click the Copy button to paste your report to the clipboard. Then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum by adding a post in it and pressing Ctrl V (to paste the text). Clicking the OK button will clear the Diagnostic window. Here is the download link:

Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Windows Vista.
1. What edition/version of Windows XP is titled?
· Home Basic
· Home Premium
· Business
· Ultimate
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.
5. DO NOT post the Product Key.
Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:
NOTE: The data collected with the MGADT does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you. The information can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.
Thank you for your participation here on the Genuine Advantage forum. We look forward to working with you.

Ok, for the first link, I get this:
Validation Not Completed: ActiveX Error
There are several reasons why validation may not have succeeded.
- The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Tool requires the user account to have administrative privileges on the computer.
- The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Tool requires access and is unable to communicate with the Microsoft validation servers. Please click here to learn more about troubleshooting your antivirus, antispyware, Internet Explorer and firewall settings.

Pnlhisey,
We really need to know the EXACT operating system which is physically installed on the machine you are attempting to download the new Direct X. If the computer in question is running Windows XP please do the following steps:
Step 1: WGA Manual ActiveX InstallationClick the Start button, then Click Run
Type: iexplore http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=39204 then Click OK
You will be prompted to download “LegitCheckControl.cab”
Choose Open
Once this completes, a window will open showing two files. “LegitCheckControl.dll” and “LegitCheckControl.inf” Leave this window open for now.
Click the Start button, then Click Run
Type: system32, then Click OK
(If you are running Windows XP, you may need to click Show Files to allow access to this system directory.)
Drag the “LegitCheckControl.dll” file from the window that was open into the “system32” directory folder. If you are prompted to overwrite a file, choose Yes, to overwrite any existing file. (If you are running Vista, you may be prompted to provide administrator permission to complete the action. If so, Press Continue, and allow it.)
Click the Start button, then Click Run
Type “regsvr32 LegitCheckControl.dll”, and then click ‘OK’.
You should see a dialog saying “DllRegisterServer in LegitCheckControl.dll succeeded.”
After you finish the above steps please restart the computer and try to validate Windows XP again. Here is the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine
Please locate the “Validate Windows” button in the upper right hand corner. Double click on the button and follow the guidance. Were you able to pass Windows Validation successfully?
Should you have additional problems please review the knowledge base (KB) article.

Both my husband and myself run on vista and are trying to download now for the third day the newest version of directx. The only thing that happens is we get to the initializing stage and then it says it is "cannot download the file check connection" even though are connection is fine. We currently have a version of directX 10 downloaded we are simply trying to update from the Nov. release. What are we doing wrong and what needs to be done in order to fix this situation?Saturday, November 15, 2008 2:06 PM
