Windows 8.1 & WHS 2011 Connection Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Yesterday I upgraded 2 of my PCs from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Both of them are now unable to connect to the server. The Launchpad opens, but says that the server is off-line. The Alert Viewer doesn't work and client back-ups aren't possible.

This is what I see on the desktop:

Has anyone else got the same issue? Any suggested workarounds?

Before I upgraded the client back-ups were working like clock-work. One of the machines is 64 bit and the other is 32 bit.

    Thanks a lot!

  • I uninstalled the connector software, flushed DNS (Command Prompt: ipconfig /flushdns), rebooted, reinstalled the connector, appears to be working.  Will test on 2nd PC.

    Update: Worked on 2nd PC.

  • Thanks mattsplat - that did the trick! Worked on both my PCs and I have them backing up now!

  • I had the same issue/errors after update to 8.1 but restarting the pc and letting it sit over night resolved everything.  Next step would have been uninstall/reinstall the connector.

Well, much to my amazement, that worked. Much easier than an uninstall/re-install.

    Thanks
