Question
-
Hi I have an ACER aspire 1500 whose hard drive crashed. I replaced the harddrive and restored the software using the ACER disks and have now got to the point where I can access the internet and wanted to update windows. I can't register my software for some reason but more importantlyI can't validate windows. I have tried various windows tools, entered the code on the sticker on my computer, run the active x thing to reinstal that. and now I have run the diagnostic thing and am posting the copied thing to this - please can someone sort this it's doing my head in.

Hello free_pete,
Note the status of "cryptographic errors detected" in the report. There is some internal glitch in your installation that is creating the problem.
First, rerun the mgadiag utility. After it completes, if the "Resolve" button is available, that means the utility has detected errors that is may be able to fix, so click the Resolve button to see if the errors can be fixed.
If that does not work, go to the online diagnostics page here: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/default.aspx? and run the diagnostics, which are also capable of fixing certain issues.
If that still does not work, back up your data and try again to do a clean installation of Windows using the Acer recovery discs.

Thanks Dan,
I tried the resolve button and had no joy, I'll give the link a go and see what happens. I've a sneaky feeling that I'll be re-installing windows though.
I'll post some news later. Thanks

Just as a follow up - I had to use the recovery/system disks that came with the system to get it all working again. At least it's got rid of a lot of rubbish?!
Thanks for the reply though.
