printer/ share on home network

  I am not able to get a canon printer pixma ip 1800, connected on my desktop HP-Compaq computer ,to allow my laptop computer HP-Compaq to wireless send a print signal to the desktop which has a wireless router.

  I have set-up a home network.

  I have set up a shareing passphase.

  My laptop does recognise the desk top and the desk top recognises the laptop and I have microsoft essessials on both.

  what else can I do, why is my laptop not able to send a print instruction to my desktop?
