Folder Duplication Dimmed RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have WHS service pack 2 with multiple computers and all backups working. I have a second internal hard drive installed. I can do a manual backup of the main hard drive, however I can not enable “folder duplication”. This has been tried on all shared folders. It is dimmed and I can not find any documentation on how to enable the option. Your help would be appreciated.

  • If the second drive has not been added to the server's storage pool as a storage drive then you won't be able to turn duplication on. The console help files will tell you exactly how to add it to the server's storage pool...

  • It does show up in server storage and as stated I am able to do a manual backup of the main hard drive to it. If it is selected in server storage the only option presented is to remove it.

  • There are two different options to select, if you add a drive - adding it to the storage pool OR adding it as backup drive.
Drives in the storage pool are used for duplication, backup disks to perform backups to an usual external disk, which can be taken offsite to have the data protected in case of a total loss of the server to fire, theft, thunderstorm ...

You haven't added the drive as a storage drive, but rather as a backup drive. (Also documented pretty well in the help files.)

  • Thanks guys, at the time of addition of the second hard drive I did not see specific documentation of the differece. I assumed backup drive was ment to be used for duplication also. Problem is now corrected after re-adding. Thanks again, Don
