Activation fine untill hal.dll error RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is a joke - I really understand that some pirates windows. It's much easier.

My Vista home premium was working just fine and was activated untill the so well known hal.dll error.

After tinkering with that for a couple of hours (hours of pure fun!) I had it working again.

But now Windows claim it's not activated and when I try to enter the Product Key in the windows activation window it says it will not work with this edition of Windows Vista

Online activation just throws an error:

    [0x80080250]

This is what the diagnostic tool says:

  • Sorry for the delay.

The error you report indicates that the protection mechanism underlying windows activation believes that a binary has been tampered.  This is probably due to Trend-Micro doing something that would otherwise be legitimate. We identified a similar issue with Spyware Doctor, and have worked with them successfully to get that issue fixed (I don't know if they released a patch yet, but I "think" so). We (Microsoft) need to contact Trend-Micro and help them resolve this issue.  Can you send me the version information for your anti-virus software? I will forward it along to the protection guys and get them engaged on working with the vendor for resolution.
