Windows not shutting down properly RRS feed

    I have a sony vaio fs760/w and it has xp

    Here is the prob

    It allows me to login and then takes me to a black screen stating

    wind did not start up successfully and gives 30 seconds to choose one of the following

    safe mode
    safe mode w/command prompt
    last known good config

    and I have choosen all of them and the same outcome it takes me back to the login screen
    please help this is driving me crazy
