I have tried all the steps' sets that Mr. Carey Frisch  Wrote in posts but none of them worked.

The final option i had was to activate windows by phone, and since in my country there's no offices for microsoft i had to call internationally so i called the nearest one which is in United Arab Emirates, but they told me that their system is being updated so i have to call back within 2 - 3 hours, and i did but they told me the same reply "System is being updated, call back within 2 - 3 hours". It has been 2 days and am hearing the same responses over and over again.

    What should i do??

  • Hello Wesam,

I am glad the PC Manucaturer was able to resolve your issue. If possible, would you provide greater detail on the resolution to your issue?

I did want to mention that the possible reason that the Activation Call Center was unable to Activate your Vista for you may be related to the internet outage affecting most of the Middle East http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22914651/

    Thank you,

  • Hello Wesam,

I am unsure of which steps (that Carey posted) you are referring to, but the below steps have shown a high successes rate for issues such as yours.

There is a Support Doc: "You may be prompted to activate Windows Vista on a computer on which Windows Vista was already activated by a Volume License or OEM installation" at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;931573  That I beleive is specific to your issue. Please follow the resolution portion of the doc.

If that does not resolve your issue, please follow the steps below. If the first set of steps does not resolve, move on to the next set of steps.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Step set #1

(If you access to the start button)

    1) Click the Start button

    2) Type cmd in the Start Search field

    3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe

    4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: cscript %windir%\System32\slmgr.vbs /ilc %windir%\System32\licensing\ppdlic\Security-Licensing-SLC-ppdlic.xrm-ms

    6) Hit the Enter key

    7) Reboot 2 times

(If you Do Not access to the start button)

    1) Click the option Access computer with reduced functionality

    2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field

    3) Find the file cmd.exe

    4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: cscript %windir%\System32\slmgr.vbs /ilc %windir%\System32\licensing\ppdlic\Security-Licensing-SLC-ppdlic.xrm-ms

    6) Hit the Enter key

    7) Reboot 2 times

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Step set #2

(If you access to the start button)

    1) Click the Start button

    2) Type: slui.exe 3 and hit the Enter key

    3) Type in the Product key from the sticker on your computer

    4) Click the Next button.

    5) You will be asked if want to Activate, click ok

    6) It will attempt to Activate by the internet and will return an Invalid Key error (this is ok, continue to step 7)

    7) Click the Start button

    8) Type: slui.exe 4 and hit the Enter key

    9) Select your location in the drop down menu and click the Next button

    10) The next screen provides the number to call to Activate by Phone

NOTE: when you call that number, you will first hear an Automated Voice that will try to Activate Vista for you. If the Automated Voice gives you an option to talk to a Live Activation Rep, select that option. If not, do not enter any numbers. This should force the Automated Voice to transfer you to a Live Activation Rep. Trying to Activate thru the Automated Voice will not work, in your case, only thru the Live Activation Rep will your Activation be successful.

Once completed, you may need to reboot twice.

(If you Do Not access to the start button)

    1) Click the option 'Run with reduced functionality'

    2) A internet Browser should come up, type: %windir%\system32\cmd.exe in the browser address bar

    3) A window with a black background will come up

    4) Type: slui.exe 3 and hit the Enter key

    5) Type in the Product key from the sticker on your computer

    6) Click the Next button.

    7) You will be asked if want to Activate, click ok

    8) It will attempt to Activate by the internet and will return an Invalid Key error (this is ok, continue to step 9)

    9) Return to the window with the black background

    10) Type: slui.exe 4 and hit the Enter key

    11) Select your location in the drop down menu and click the Next button

    12) The next screen provides the number to call to Activate by Phone

NOTE: when you call that number, you will first hear an Automated Voice that will try to Activate Vista for you. If the Atomated Voice gives you an option to talk to a Live Activation Rep, select that option. If not, do not enter any numbers. This should force the Automated Voice to transfer you to a Live Activation Rep. Trying to Activate thru the Automated Voice will not work, in your case, only thru the Live Activation Rep will your Activation be successful.

Once completed, you may need to reboot twice.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Step set #3

    1) Open Internet Browser

    2) Type %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe

    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)

    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar

    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32

    9) Type net start slsvc

    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)

    11) Reboot Twice

    12) You may be required to Re-Activate. Use the Activate by Phone method outlined below

    Activate by Phone steps:

    a) If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type in "slui.exe 4" in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.

    b) If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" press enter, a new window will come up, type: slui 4 and hit enterand follow steps to Activate over the Phone.

NOTE: The key to this process is that you need to talk to a Live Activation Rep! When you first call, you will be interacting with an Automated Voice, either select the option to talk to a Live Rep or if there is no option, do not enter any numbers. This should force the automated voice to tansfer you to a Live Rep.

  • Hello Darin Smith,

"I am unsure of which steps (that Carey posted) you are referring to, but the below steps have shown a high successes rate for issues such as yours."

    - The steps that Carey posted are exactly the same as above.

"There is a Support Doc: at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;931573  That I beleive is specific to your issue. Please follow the resolution portion of the doc"

    - I followed the solution mentioned in the document but windows update was not working and i tried to download the specific update but it failed and gave me "This update is not suitable for your system" even though am 100% that my system is 32x.

    "Type: cscript %windir%\System32\slmgr.vbs /ilc %windir%\System32\licensing\ppdlic\Security-Licensing-SLC-ppdlic.xrm-ms"

    - There's something wrong with this procedure, i changed the directory name and modified it and successfully run it, didnt do anything", done the same for step 2 & step 3, same result but neither step 1 or step 2 or step 3 worked for me.

"NOTE: The key to this process is that you need to talk to a Live Activation Rep! (Activating By Phone)"

    - I done that for 2 days, calling internationally to activate my vista by phone, but what's the point when i hear the same reply over and over again. It's really FUNNY that it takes all that time to update a system and the FUNNIEST that the employees themselves don't know when the update will be finished nor estimated time for updating, even their supervisor or technical department! all what i get is "please call back within 2 - 3 hours" and when i do they tell me the same reply, even though each time i call i tell them that am calling internationally.

Anyway, am not saying all this to make a point or anything neither attacking anybody, but it was very annoying.

The 1st & last call i made was today morning, but i didnt call "the live activation rep", i called the support line for my PC manufacturer and i told them the problem and they gave me the solution in 2 minutes, i just had to restore back all my settings & system files which was the cause of this problem, and it worked.

    Thanks =)
