Windows 7 Ultimate BOUGHT FROM MICROSOFT now says Evaluation Copy build 7601 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I don't know what the idea is of starting a "new thread" all the time, when the IDENTICAL issue occurs, but NONE of the "solutions" seem to work.

I now suspect this is an issue CREATED by Microsoft's failure to fully troubleshoot either Windows 7 Ultimate, or Service Pack 1 (NOT the beta).

Here is the results from MGDIAG in case anyone can make sense of this stuff, and provide an actual solution to this REPEATEDLY OCCURRING problem:

  • From your MGA Report:

This indicates you have a Release Candidate version of Service Pack 1 installed.  Please uninstall it and install the final version of Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.  See: How to uninstall Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

  • The reason for the new thread is that the thread belongs to the original poster. When you reply (clicking the Reply button) you are replying to that poster's issue, not your own, regardless of how similar your issue is or how you phrase the reply.

It becomes very confusing when several people try to discuss their own issues in the same thread. To ask for discussion of your own issue you need to click the Ask a Question button at the top of the forum page.

Having said that, if you purchased your copy of Windows from the Microsoft Store online, contact the Microsoft Store where you opened your account. Several users are reporting that the Microsoft Store had a problem this week causing this sort of non-genuine notice. They report that the Microsoft Store is resolving the issue.

  • Thank you Carey.

SP1 uninstalled successfully, and the odious notice is no longer displayed.

Now, for locating and downloading the current (and hopefully repaired) version of Service Pack 1.
