OneCare Update lost its memory again RRS feed

  • It seems like every time OneCare installs an update, it loses all the history on the PC.  It doesn't know when the last tuneup or backup was performed, it has to be reminded of the backup schedule, and it will start a whole new backup set, completely ignoring the previous backups.

    I've gotten used to it, because months ago when I asked MS tech support about it, they couldn't figure out why I was upset.  But now I will have to go in and mess with the security settings to delete one of the older backup folders, or else the new, complete backup won't have enough room on the backup drive.

    BTW - there's no easy way to delete old backups; you'd think the guys in the System Restore cubicles at Microsoft would e-mail the code to the OneCare folks.  That's OK; the Word guys still haven't told the Excel guys how to do headers and footers either.

  • I'm sorry to read that you encountered a problem, apparently repeatedly, with OneCare losing settings, but there has not been a OneCare program update since December. There are signature and firewall rule updates, which could be affecting the OneCare database, but no program updates.
    The loss of settings is unfortunate and should only happen if you perform a database reset or a reinstall of OneCare. And, yes, the inability to continue with a backup set after one of these resets is unfortunate as is the lack of an easy way to delete backups from a hard drive.
