No longer uses storage card RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had Live Mesh Mobile set to use my storage card for sync.  Things were working great, had 3 folders that were set to sync with mobile device.

    Then the folders set to sync to device were no longer shown as syncing.  When I tried "Sync Folder with Mobile" on the phone it tried to put the folder in "\Live Folders", rather than "\Storage Card\Live Folders".

    The issue began on or around when I used my PC to add a folder to my mesh and in the process set the folder to sync to the mobile device (done from the PC).

  • Hi David,

    Thank you for submitting those additional files.  Our devs were able to quickly determine the cause:

    Somehow the file \storage card\Application Data\Live Mesh\Config\cardId.txt has been deleted.  Hence Live Mesh is assuming that the storage card you're using is a different card, detects a mismatch, and stops syncing to the storage card.

    Workarounds (any one of these three should work):

    1. Delete \Application Data\Live Mesh\Data\Metadata\cardId.txt (i.e., the file on the device memory), then restart Live Mesh;
    OR
    2. Copy \Application Data\Live Mesh\Data\Metadata\cardId.txt to \storage card\Application Data\Live Mesh\Config\cardId.txt, then restart Live Mesh;
    OR
    3. Uninstall and reinstall Live Mesh.

    Also, please remember to set the Live Mesh log level on your phone to back to default.  Please let me know if that resolves the issue.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • I think I found the cause of the problem.   I tried idea 1. (delete \Application Data\Live Mesh\Data\Metadata\cardId.txt) and the client was using the storage card again.

    I then checked the \storage card\Application Data\ folder to see if there was a \storage card\Application Data\Live Mesh\Config\cardId.txt file created.  There was NO such file.  When I tried to manually copy the file (as per idea 2) from \Application Data\Live Mesh\Data\Metadata\cardId.txt I received an error of "unable to write file - check permissions, read-only, etc".

    After deleting and recreating the \storage card\Application Data\ folder I was able to copy to \storage card\Application Data\Live Mesh\Config\cardId.txt.

  • Hi David,

    If you began the sync process from your computer (as your last paragraph suggests), then their location in \Live Folders rather than \Storage Card\Live Folders is the expected behavior.  If you begin the sync process from your phone, on the other hand, you should see a screen asking which location you'd like to use.

    Would you mind provided a bit more detail about the steps that you took, so that we can determine whether this is a bug or not (and, if not, help you get the folders synced to the location you'd prefer)?

    <Edit>  David, some of our developers suspect that your storage card is not being detected for some reason.  Would you mind collecting your logs and submitting a bug?  Instructions are in an Announcement at the top of the forum.  After you submit the bug, if you could post your Connect Feedback ID here, I'd appreciate it: that will allow me to follow up with our developers and get back to you as soon as possible.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • A bug had already been submitted.  Bug ID 401234.

    I have since the previous post uninstalled the live mesh mobile client and reinstalled it.  I had some of the issues other on this forum have had related to being "unable to remove" and then once reinstalled "unable to connect".  Following suggestions in the other threads I was able to get past those issues.

    Once reinstalled and connected I (all the following done on my mobile device)
    - set an already existing local (on my mobile device) folder to sync
    - set a mesh folder to sync to my mobile device

    Several syncs ran successfully (files sent as expected both directions).  I closed the live mesh mobile client and restarted several hours later.  After connecting on startup all my folders were (again....) shown as "not sync".

  • Looking at the log, it seems the storage card is either not being detected or detected as a different card (wrong CardID).....

    The storage cand has been in the device the whole time, and has been working just fine for everything else as best I can tell (file manager, activesync file browser, email storage, camera storage, etc).

  • Hi David,

    Our developers are continuing to try to determine the reason that your storage card is not being properly detected.  Some additional documents would help us, though.  Would you mind doing the following?

    Please set the Live Mesh log level on your phone to ALL (on the first page of live mesh: Menu->Settings->Log Level (value = ALL)) and restart Mesh.   Wait a few minutes, please, then send us the following files (please attach them to your existing bug):

       - the new set of logs;

       - \storage card\Application Data\Live Mesh\Config\cardId.txt

       - \storage card\Application Data\Live Mesh\Data\Metadata\cardId.txt

    Once you have submitted these files, please let me know and I will pass on the information to our developers to take a look at.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • I have attached two zip files to bug ID 401234.  The comment describes how I gathered them.  The first is a zip of my whole \Application Data\Live Mesh folder, the second the log files after another restart/close cycle.  The folder \storage card\Application Data\ is empty on my device.

  • One issue I had was once I got the whole \storage card\Application Data\Live Mesh\Config\cardId.txt thing resolved, when I clicked (or what ever you do in WinMo....) on the folder (to view it) I got a screen that said the folder I was looking for was on a storage card that was not accessible.

    After I stopped synchronizing that folder, and then set it again to sync folder to device it works normal.
