Windows Vista (TM) Home Basic Validation Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had my Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop for about a year and a half now, it was given to me as part as a residence deal for my university, it came with windows vista already installed. It was working fine until about a month ago when my hard drive died on me so I had brought it to my tech shop at school to have a new one installed. When I got my computer back they informed me that I only had a trial version of vista on because the product key that I had was completely rubbed off from the bottom of my laptop and they could not reinstall it. I had remembered that I had wrote it down when I originally got it, so when I went back home I tried to re-enter the product key and it is saying that it is an invalid product key but I have never tried to upgrade/ change OS and I have never given my key to anybody else so I don't understand how it can be invalid. The trial is now up and I use my laptop anymore unless I enter in a a product key and my key is still not activating. Any suggestions?

  • Hy Darin,

Thanks for the response. I was able to get to step five but after I typed in net stop slsvc and selected yes it said access denied.
