"display driver stopped responding but has recovered" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just built a new editing computer with an Intel i7 580 (Gulftown) Hexacore (HTT) 3.33Ghz (4.2GHz Turbo Boost) HTT, a EVGA GTX580 (fermi), Intel 128GB SSD 6GB/s drive for the OS, a WD 1TB HDD for other programs and storage, 24GB triple channel G-Skill Rip Jaws RAM, an 850 watt Cooler Master PS, all on an EVGA X58 FTW3 mobo using Windows 7 Ultimate OS. During GPU high demand, I get the error, "display driver stopped responding but has recovered." I've tried everything...reinstalling the driver directly from the EVGA disc and using that driver, installing the newest driver and using it, underclocking my 772Mhz card down to 702Mhz, changing the delay time on GWORD to 8 sec. Nothing seems to work. Microsoft will not answer me. Nvidia will not answer me. EVGA will not answer me. The only place that I could get a real person online was for my Adobe Production Premium program. I use this computer for editing work only...I do not play games on it. This problem is causing serious issues with my workflow. Does anyone have any suggections other than I should have got a MAC?

  • I talked to a Microsoft Tech...finally...he said that it is not a software issue. It is in the hardware. Most likely the power supply. However, I went into the control panel under power settings. Under select a plan, I choose additional options. I clicked on Hih Performance and that seems to have resolved the issue...for now. I ran two seperate media players, Windows and Real, both using 1080p/30 HD footage, running at the same time, scrubbing bothquickly from point to point...no crash!

  • This seems to have worked, I haven't had a crash in two days.
