Windows Client Login + User Roles in MS Sync Application ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am developing a WPF Windows client occasionally connected application with SQL Server express on local client laptop syncing via the MS Sync Framework to SQL Server standard whenever the laptop has access to the corporate network .

We want to add a Login Dialog, assign roles to users (in the sql server database) and restrict access to certain areas of the application depending on the roles the user is assigned to.

What API, dll, etc should I be using to manage login and user roles? Is there example code somewhere of adding this functionality?

I know Active directory can do this along with System.Security.Principal but I'm not sure if that requires access to the domain server so not suitable for Occasionally Connected Applications? Or can that be cached locally ?

Or the asp.net membership provider is an alternative method ?

Whats the correct approach for MS Sync / Occasionally Connected Applications ?
