windows xp activation RRS feed

  • Question

    Hi,

I had a pc which was installed with XP and it was activated also.

I took an image of the C: drive of the old PC and installed it in a new PC. During login on the first boot it asked for windows activation. Since the old product key was already used I bought another XP liscence and changed the product key with a new one and activated the new XP on phone.

When I restart the new PC after activation it is again asking to activate windows.

I called up microsoft and they told me to follow the instructions in KB- 312295.

I started with the steps, but couldnt find the folder(value) mentioned in the KB.(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE--->software-->Microsoft--->Windows NT---> CurrentVersion-->winlogon-->notify-->Resets). (RESETS NOT FOUND IN MY NEW PC)

Could you pls help me to activate my XP and avoid getting the activation message with the new liscence as its necessary to work with the image I have.

    Thanks and regards,

    John.

    2. After running the MGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy".

    3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the "WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in a detailed post. http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25
