adding to a subscription RRS feed

  • Question

  • I hope someone can help......we just got a new lap top that I'm trying to add to my current subscription, I've downloaded One Care from the website-went fine.  I go to add it to my other two computers click the add to subscription , click already have window live id, type in my id and password and I get a red message that says "you've tried to sign in too many times w/ an incorrect e-mail or password please wait a while & then try again".  I've waited 12 hours, 2 hours, 24 hours and I keep getting same response.  I know I'm using the correct information b/c I've logged into windows live directly to see, and I am able to log in with no problem.  I've powered down, restarted and have done everything I can do.  If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.  Thanks!

  • On the new laptop, are you activating from within OneCare by clicking the subscribe link?

If so, can you sign into https://billing.microsoft.com with that LiveID and password to confirm that it is the OneCare account? I assume you have also confirmed this on the other PC that already has an activated copy of OneCare - clicking Help/About in OneCare to see the subscription ID?

Is the password for your LiveID longer than 8 characters? If so, you need to shorten it to activate and then change it afterwards due to a bug in activation that limits you to 8 characters. You can change your password at http://account.live.com

If your password is under 8 characters, have you confirmed that your CAPS Lock key isn't on when typing in the password? And you aren't pasting it in, are you?

If you need help, you can contact support -

You should follow the support process on the PC where OneCare is already activated so that you can get the support phone number.

  • Most excellent. Unfortunately, that means they changed the error. :-( it used to report that it was incorrect, not the message you were getting about needing to wait because of too many invalid attempts. Ah, well. I wish they would fix the problem, but at least you were able to get around it!
    Take care,
