Problem opening attachments and other files such as pps, pictures etc in Windows Live Mail

  Everything was working fine today then suddenly I find that I cannot open file attachments in Words, pictures and pps files, could someone tell me how to rectify this problem please. I am using Windows XP Home edition with Internet Explorer and this is only hapening in Windows Live Mail, if I forward the e-mails to Outlook I can open the attachments
