  • VB 6.0 is not supported anymore... for 10 years (product lifecycle)

    Why not VB.NET ?

  • To install the VB6 programming environment on Windows 8 or 10 use  http://nuke.vbcorner.net/

If you don't already have VB6 you can buy it on Ebay.

If you have a (paid) MSDN subscription you can download VB6.

Microsoft support VB6 programming (VB6 Support Statement, VB6 Programming IDE Installer)

  • Arvind,

VB6 is like a Ford T. Some persons want to keep them running. But for your organization?

Microsoft has made a commitment to keep for a long time the runtime running. But that is not for the development IDE(the Visual Studio 1998 part that came with it).

We are now at VB15 which has since version VB7 less code changes then there were from VB5 to VB6.

Of course are those who want to keep the Fort T running telling that there are no real Fords build after the Ford T.

  • The .Net version of VB has many really big improvements; it supports object-oriented programming and it supports the Windows API better. Don't try to swim upstream (using VB6), go with the flow and learn VB.Net.

Why waste money on an antique just because they are understood when you can get a 2017 fuel injected, turbo charged, all wheel drive, 10 speed automatic paddle shifted hot rod and be current tech even though it requires learning? It's like staying with Windows XP instead of moving to Windows 7, then 8, then 10.
