Adding a HPC 2012 workstation node to a HPC 2008R2 head node RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

is it possible to add an HPC 2012 Workstation node to a HPC 2008R2 Head node?

When I try to connect to a HPC2008R2 Head node with the HPC 2012 Cluster Manager I get the following exception:

"The attribute 'Version' for manager 'NetBootManager' does not match the manager's assembly. The assembly's attribute is '4.0.0.0', while the manager declaration specifies '3.0.0.0'. Change the manager attribute to Version='4.0.0.0'"

  • for the 1st question, no you can't join an HPC 2012 WN to 2008R2 cluster.

for the 2nd question, no, HPC 2012 cluster manager will not work with HPC 2008R2 cluster.

  • Thank you!

But what would be my options if I would like to join a Windows 8 Professional Workstation to an HPC2008R Cluster?

HPC2008R2 Express SP4 does not Support Windows 8 (Correct?) and HPC 2012 does not suport an HPC2008R2 Cluster!?

  • Hi Stephan,

You cannot have your HPC 2012 HN on a Windows server 2008 R2 machine. However you can add Windows Server 2008 R2 node - as a CN or as an Unmanaged Server (Similar to Workstation).
