70-682 does not award 70-680 certificate RRS feed

  • Question

  • I decided to raise this in a new topic as a follow up to my earlier post Does 70-682 = 2 Certificates?

If anyone is planning to take an upgrade path that relies on the 70-680 you may fall short and not get your certificates like myself.

I've just passed the 70-686 exam but have not been awarded the MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7 certificate. That makes 2 Certificates that I have earned but not received now. I'd like to know if there are many other people experiencing this same problem?

  • Hmm ... I am wondering about that, too. I would expect, that the 70-682 will be granted, too. I do not expect it to be listed at the bottom, but the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist should have shown the Windows 7, Configuring, too.

I just hope now, that I do not run into these problems when I come to the point where I upgrade my development certifications ...

    With kind regards,

  • 70-682 is only for those who possess the MCDST cert. This one exam is used as an upgrade path to MCTS and MCITP for Windows 7. This would be the equivalent to taking the 70-680 and 70-685 separately without already having the MCDST. You achieve the same cert. but you only have to take one exam as an upgrade.

So 70-682 is an upgrade exam only, you wont get credit for it unless you are an MCDST already.

Firstly, you dont know what you're talking about, DG10979.

"This exam is used to upgrade your MCDST XP or EDST Vista certifications to the EDST Windows 7 certification."

That aside, this discussion is only about the issue of Microsoft not supplying the 70-680 certificate after people have earned it through this exam.
If anyone else has had the same problem, post back as I would like to know how wide this issue is.

  • Yeah.

Andrew did it correctly. His transcript shows the basis, then the upgrade which gave him the new title "Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7" correctly! Then he did take another PRO exam which should give him another title.

And of course: I fear the same result. Because my way takes me now to the MCPD Windows Developer 3.5 which I want to upgrade to the 4.0 one. And this upgrade should also grant me 3 MCTS titles from which i require 2 to get the Web Developer 4.0 later! So this case really makes me a little unsure, that my choosen way will be correct or not.

Andrew: I fear that I cannot help you much but can you quickly summarize, what steps you did so far? Did you contact the regional center of microsoft or is there a support address for certification stuff? I think I saw a microsoft email inside the other thread where you wrote something. Sorry, if I am to lazy now to search a lot to find single pieces. I am really interested in a long "support story". Would be great if you could write something about that. And of course: keep us up to date of new decisions or answers you were able to get from microsoft!

    With kind regards,

    Konrad

  • Funny you should ask Konrad, Just got the reply:

    Dear Andrew,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding your MCTS and MCITP  Certifications.

We would like to confirm that your 70-686 is visible in your transcript.

As you already have been informed, the 70-682 upgrade exam will be counted as 70-680 after next update of Microsoft Certification System in September. Untill the end of that process your qualifications are not uploaded correctly.

Therefore, according to the system, your qualifications are not counting towards MCITP. After all your exams will be recognized by the system correctly, your certifications will be uploaded in the transcript with the correct date.

We apologize for the inconvenience this situation may be causing.

If you have any further questions please get in touch with us and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can.

    Kind Regards,

    Ewa Ochwat

  • In short, sit back and shut up :(

Is there anyone else in this situation or is it just me?

    Monday, August 16, 2010 6:17 PM
  • Hmm, I read in the answer, that there is a general problem in the Microsoft Certification System and it should be fixed in September when it is updated again.

So I am quite sure, that there must be others with this problem, too.

And I am just thinking, if this is a information, that is worth a small sticky till it is fixed? Maybe Rubel Kahn reads it and decides.

Thank you for sharing the information!

    With kind regards,

    Konrad
