Error activating windows 7 ultimate 32 bit obtained direct from Microsoft via my annual subscription

Question
-
I just created a windows 7 ultimate 32 bit virtual machine using VMWare player on my windows 2008 64 bit Dell PC which is fairly new. I created the machine and then tried to validate using the key I obtained when I downloaded the software from MS.
My diagnostics info is:

the product key in use is the default key windows uses wheo no key is entered during install and can not be activated.
you will have to change your product key to a legitimate one.
click start, type slui 3, press enter.

I did as you asked and entered the product key which I obtained from microsoft.
It ends in vv6dd
Still didn't activate with the correct key I entered.
I don't know where this key from the diagnostics comes from:
Windows Product Key: *****-*****-TMVMJ-BBMRX-3MBMV

According to Belarc Advisor (nice software) the windows product key reported in the diagnostic software
Windows Product Key: *****-*****-TMVMJ-BBMRX-3MBMV
IS the current windows product key. But I do enter the product key I received from Microsoft, and it is very different from the one above, yet the activation still fails.
