Certification explanation needed! (Probably seen this a gazillion times...) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey, total newb set of questions which have probably been read by you guys a million times over so sorry in advance about that, but just some plain, simple answers would be most appreciated.

I'm in the UK and looking to do a MC in Programming (Web Applications), gaining information from the MCSD: Web Apps Certification web page. The newb questions are as follows:

    - Do you have to undertake a course of sorts (a continuation of recorded and assessed work), or do you simply do an exam?

    - Also, probably a thick question, but on that page it described 'steps' (1, 2 and 3). Would I be right to guess that I have to do the three steps, steps being the three exams, to get the MCSD certification? Or am I totally off-course?

    Thanks for your help! :D

  • Hi,

You can study for your self and just take the exam. Sure the courses are a great help and will give you a start for your exam but they're not enough, depending on your knowledge. For each exam I suggest to read a few books, read the exam requisites, read related stuff on MSDN / technet / blogs and when you feed prepared, schedule and take the exam.

If you do an exam until 31 May you'll get a 2a shot voucher (if you miss the exam, you can take another one for free), what that's really cool!

About the other question, the step's are just for your information, you don't need to take the exams for that order and yes, to achieve that certification you must pass all three exams.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi,

There is no requirement to take the training before you are allowed to take the exam. So you can also self-study and book the exam.

Ofcourse you will need to have sufficient knowledge about the topics covered in the exam to pass the exam.

To receive certfication that requires passing multiple exams you will need to pass all the exams listed.

So for MCSD: Web Apps you need to pass 70-480, 70-486 and 70-487.

Good luck with achieving MCSD: Web Applications!

  • Abou the exam 70-480 (Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3), Microsoft and/or Prometric offered a lot of vouchers in the past, where you could take this exam for free. Perhaps you can find anything still available...
