Exam 70-640 - MS Press MCITP Kit

Question
-
I sat the 70-640 Exam yesterday and failed by 20 points.
While researching some of the questions that i was asked i realised they were not in the study material that i was using.
However the study Material is the MCITP Enterprise Self Paced Exam Microsoft Press Books, a pack bought on Amazon for the MCITP.
Further investigation revealed that they have since released Second Editions of the individual books to include Server 2008 R2.
So any new questions were on this OS that i had not studied as they were not in the "Pack".However heres where i draw issue.
I wanted my MCITP and i went and purchased the Books, as an admin for the past 4 years i am well versed in most aspects of Windows Server.
I found the collection of them on Amazon for sale and purchased them. Why are these still for sale given that they are obsolete? I spent the guts of 100 Euro on those books and they are incomplete for the all the current exams/??
Now i have a free second shot, thank god, but this is terrible business practise.
How do i get the latest book for this Exam? Do i need to fork out another 40 Euro for the 2nd Edition?
Is there some trade-in/upgrade i could get?
Is there even an MCITP Enterprise collection that i should have purchased or have MS Press yet to release it?If the latter is true i'm going to fight to get a free upgrade for my books or to get my money back, now where that fight goes is still to be determined so any help on the above quesitons would be appreciated.
Regards,
Conor

I'm sorry to hear about the exam. Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't do the trade-in/upgrade deal with their books.
I did found this book: 70-640: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration with Lab Manual (Microsoft Official Academic Course Series)
It was published in 2010, so I hope this helps.

I ran into the same frustration when studying for 70-640 this past spring.
There's no simple answer, but Microsoft has a free e-book for Server 2008 R2 which includes detail on some of the new features on the exam. It's quite good: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/microsoft_press/archive/2009/10/20/free-ebook-introducing-windows-server-2008-r2.aspx
I also bought the Windows Server 2008 R2 Unleashed book (it's orange), which is exceptionally detailed and written in an easier-to-understand way than the MS Press book for this exam.
Best of luck.

R2 books are just hitting Australia now.
No sign of box set as yet! and not quite all MCITP for either enterprise or Server have been published.

Hi Conor. I totally agree with you. I did the 70-642. I barely passed the exam. In the practice tests, I consistently scored in the upper 90%, which was supposed to be a pretty good indication that I would duplicate such score in the real exam, or at least hit in in the ball park. I purchased the Microsoft Press Self Study guide fopr 70-642, which was 1st Edition. Although the guide was sufficiently adequate, it was riddled with errors. Some topics were covered in much greater detail than the exam required, while others we scantily covered. Furhtermore, the book was riddled with errors in its Answers section, as well as typo errors.
What stunned me was that the 2nd Edition had a near complete face lift. It also covered many topics in Server 2008 R2. I was exasperated during the exam at how structurally different it was in format and structure than what I used in the practice test CD provided with the book.
Now, here is my beef: Microsoft must at least provide most up todate information about the suitability of their study guides for current exams. They should provide this info in their website, where they recommend study guides to the exams. About 1 month prior to the exam date, and at the time of my studies, the website was still recommending the 1st edition.
Now I am studying for 70-640. I have purchased the 2nd edition and have practically thrown away the 1st edition book. I am a lot wiser now. But I tell you, the 70-642 exam unselltled me. It had a new look and unfamiliar structure. I was really worried that I was going to fail it. The score in my 70-642 exam sure shook my confidence until I revised the content of the 2nd edition book.
About buying the self-study guides in enterprise bundle, forget about it. Bad idea. If they get obsolete, you are looking at buying the whole collection again. Just buy the guide for present preparation and then buy the rest as per need basis. Besides

Just to point out that the second shot program ended on June 30th 2011 .. The details were that you had to take the retake by this date.
