Accessing info from 'additional columns' available in File Manager RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Powershell, I can access the file modified, created, and last accessed dates without problem.

File Manager has a lot of other information available, accessible through the 'Add Columns' option. How do I find the Powershell names for these fields?

The two I am particularly interested in at the moment are 'Date' and 'Date Taken'.

What exactly is the definition of the field named 'Date'?

  • PowerShell has no native way to do this.  The extended properties are dependent on vendor support for file typs and the DLLs that expose this are registered to Explorer (the shell).  You can only use the shell API to get these.

That said - look in the Gallery for numerous examples of how to use the "Shell.Application" object.
