"This copy of Windows is not genuine." after hard disk upgrade

Question
-
I recently changed my hard disk (the old one was failing) using a Macrium Reflect image I'd created from the old disk. Now twice a day it pops up to say that "this copy of windows is not genuine" although it's been working fine for a couple of years. PC is a Lenovo running "Vista bus to Win 7 Pro UPG fulfill LENOVO" obtained direct from Lenovo.
In Control panel it says that Windows is activated.
I've tried many different tips on line and it's still popping up the message. I really don't want to reinstall from scratch so any ideas would be very welcome
Thanks

Thanks for all your help - I think that I've spent (wasted) so much time that it's time to do a clean install. I tried a repair over the weekend, it got right through almost to the end then said (words to the effect of) "can't install windows on this hardware" and rolled back! I'm suprised you didn't hear the scream of frustration!
Thanks again
John

The problem lies with the file integrity. This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Driverstry downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2101&DwnldID=20624Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

I tried updating the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Drivers - first checking that I met the system requirements
When it rebooted it took 25mins to get to the desktop, a second reboot took 15 minutes and the system was glacially slow (gave up on MGADiag after 45 minutes), so I restored to a restore point which took 6 hours to complete!
So I'm now back where I started yesterday.
Any further things I can try?
Thanks
John

That's the first time I've ever heard of that happening! Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt, and post the results, together with a new MGADiag report.net start cryptsvcsc qc cryptsvcHere are some instructions to make life easier :)1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Windows, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I just wanted to confirm that the WAT area hadn't changed (it hasn't)Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the C:\Windows\System32 folderfind the Catroot2 folder there, and right-click on it - select Propertiesin the General tab, clear the box beside 'Read-only (Only.....' by clicking in it until it's empty (it cycles around three values)Click Apply.Accept any warnings that come up - if you get a 'Ignore/Ignore All/Try again' option, pick 'Ignore all'Once complete (may be almost instantaneous), reboot, and run another MGADiag report.

If a clear readonly and then right click and look at Properties, the readonly flag is back (incidentally, I am an Administrator). The Catroot2 dir contains 2 emply directorys (both with the light gray tick in read only) again can't clear the tick.
There is also a file dberr.txt which has lots of line of the form:

The 'readonly' flag is almost always a blob on folders - it's one of the quirks of windows that you can't make a folder read-only, only the content. In that case, I would suggest the CheckSUR tool - it may help cure some of the errors (I'm not any kind of expert on JET!)

I'm still tending towards this being a problem with the IRST drivers - but it may be being compounded by other things. Please use a Clean Boot procedure, and then install the IRST drivers again - does this still give the extended boot times? If not, see if you can find the trigger for the extended boot times (especially if the IRST removes the non-genuine notification!)You may be correct in thinking that either a repair install or a clean install would be a good way forward.

John

That does sound like a death-knell for this installation :(remember to back up all data to external media (if you haven't already done so) before starting the clean install.Good luck.
