Received MCP ID and Access Code but unable to login RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear members,

I have tried to find an answer to my problem in this forum, but was unable to find a solution for my issue.

The thing is that is received my MCP ID and Access Code today from Microsoft and wanted to access the MCP member site: https://mcp.microsoft.com/mcp
Off course when you wants to enter this page you have to first login with your Windows Live ID, which i did and then you have to enter your MCP ID and temporary access code.
After filling in all the necessary information and clicking the "next" button i see that the site is trying to load for a while but then nothin happens. (no error messages)
Just to be sure i also deleted all temp files, history and cookies, and tried again but still the same the site starts loading and then nothing happens.

After this i tried to login the MCP member site using 2 different browsers but this made no difference.
Then i read that you have to associate your Windows Live ID with you MCP, but how can i do this if i cant login to the MCP site?
I thought that maybe if i reset my access code i would be able to unlink any existing Windows Live ID's associated to my MCP ID, so i went here: https://mcp.microsoft.com/Authenticate/ResetAccessCode/ResetAccessCode.aspx

At this page i found out that my Windows Live ID i use to access this forum and other Microsoft area's where you have to use your Windows Live ID was not associated with my MCP ID,
because i received an error: "We regret that we were unable to confirm your information in our system. Please confirm that your MCP ID, first name, last name and e-mail address are correct, and then try again. Please note that the e-mail address must be the same address used on your MCP profile. For assistance, contact your local Regional Service Center."

This message brought me one step further, because this meant that Microsoft or Prometric used a different email (or live id) to associate to my MCP ID, after looking what email address was used to send the MCP ID and Access code to i saw they used my standard email address, for which i have never created a Windows Live ID.
Then i also remembered that when i filled in all information Prometric and my training center needed i used my normal email address for which no Windows Live ID is created

So i went back to https://mcp.microsoft.com/Authenticate/ResetAccessCode/ResetAccessCode.aspx and filled in all information again this time with the email address Microsoft and Prometric send the information to, and i received a message: "Congratulations! Your access code has been reset and was sent to your email address."
But i never received the new access code up till now, so i tried 2 more times but still no new access code in my inbox (or spam folder).

Now my question is how can i change the email address (for which i have no Windows Live ID created) that is associated to my MCP ID without being able to login to the MCP member site?
Or would a workaround be to create a Windows Live ID from the email address that is used to correspond with me? Or maybe add an email addres to my existing Windows Live ID?

    Anybody has any ideas?

  • update: i tried deleting the cookies and web browsing history, i thought it might solve this issue but nothing happened and the issue is still as it is. i will not update any more regarding this case because i don't want to hijack the original poster topic and drive it to another issue that might not represent the original poster problem. • UPDATE

I contacted the Microsoft Regional Service Center by phone and they told me they know about this issue.
They send me an email, which i had to answer and provide them with some  additional information.
After collecting all the information they will forward it to the technical department.
They were unable to give me a time span, so i guess we just have to wait.

P.S. the email address you use in your Prometric profile is just a contact email address and is not used to associate with your Windows Live ID.

The Windows Live ID you use to login to the https://mcp.microsoft.com/mcp will be associated with you MCP ID after you successfully enter your MCP ID and Access Code and clicking "Next"

  • I have the same problem.

I entered my MCP ID and access code that i just received (just passed the 70-632 exam on 16 DEC) through my email, (gmail account used to regestir the exam at the prometric center and also used as a windows LIVE ID) the page took a while to reload, but then nothing happened , no error message displayed at all.

i guess i tried to access the member site more than trillion times now, using different computers and web browsers, but nothing happens. the page that asks for the MCP ID and access code re-appears without any error messages ,keeping what i entered on the MCP ID and access code fields.

i emailed mcphelp@micorsoft.com and i am waiting for their reply.

Please post back if you receive an answer. Same thing is happening to me. I just passed my first MS cert, got the MCP ID and temp. access code, but when I enter it and hit next, nothing happens. The page just reloads no error messages or anything.

  • thanks for the update

i emailed microsoft on this address mcphelp@micorsoft.com regarding the same issue, but i got no response yet.

i am starting to get worried, is this a temporary technical issue with the MCP members site or is it a personal technical problem with our MCP IDs ?? .

wish if someone can give us an official diagnose for the issue and a timespan for how much it will take until it is fixed.

by the way Vincet, do you suggest that i go vist the testing center where i took the exam and discuss this issue with them? maybe they are related to the problem? (took my exam at a prometric testing center).

you as soon as we are able to resolve the problem.

And murtada.h i dont think you have to visit the prometric test center, i think there is something wrong at the Microsoft side and not the Prometric side.
As i said the email address you use in your Prometric profile (https://www.register.prometric.com/ChangeProfile.asp) is used to contact u only, Prometric uses this address to send you exam information and confirmation mail and this address is also used by mswwprog@microsoft.com to send your MCP ID and Access Code.

Did you try the solution posted by Vincent Lier on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 5:19 PM?  If so and you are still not able to associate your Windows Live ID with your MC ID, please contact your local Microsoft Regional Service Center http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/help.aspx

  • Yes, I've already tried all described solutions and have wrote to Microsoft Regional Service, but still without results or feedbacks, maybe today I would get an answer from MS service.

  • Dear All,

I was experiencing the same problem today, but luckily I found a work around for it and I hope it will work for you guys too. Here is the solution:

    1. Login to your Prometric account and change your email to one of Microsoft's web mail accounts (Hotmail, Outlook, MSN, Microsoft, etc)

    2. Login to MCP website and register your MC ID under the email you provided in your Prometric account

It worked for me fine, and I hope the same to you guys.

    Best of luck,
