SATA power supply RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have almost completed my WINDOWS HOME SERVER. I now currently have 4 -- SATA 500GB hard drives. My power supply only has 2 SATA power connectors. Any ideas on how I can obtain more SATA power connectors and integrate it into my new server?

  • You can buy a Molex-to-SATA power cable like this one. You can find one at just about any computer/electronics parts store.

  • I'm going to have to do that as well.  Does anyone have any substantive warnings about using these converter cables?  Any important loss of voltage/reliability, etc., especially as it might lead to hard drive problems?

  • For what it's worth, Intel supplies these with their solid state harddrive desktop kits as standard.
