WHS PP3 and Windows 7 x64 protocol mismatch RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been trying to use the Media Center Connector software that has been part of both PP2 and PP3 for WHS but I always get a unknown error.  I am running windows 7 x64 build 7201 and have upgraded from PP2 to PP3 on my WHS.  When I have checked the error viewer i get the following info:
    -----------
Windows Home Server protocol mismatch. This computer uses protocol version 6.0.2361.0, but partner computer SERVER uses protocol version 6.0.2030.0. A connection cannot be established.
    -----------
    with and Event ID 1807.

The home server toolkit gives me similar information showing the client computer as 6.0.2361.0 and the server computer as 6.0.2030.0.  When I try with PP2 instead of PP3 I get the client as 6.0.2030.2 and the server as 6.0.2030.0

The home server connector seems to work fine, but the media center connector does not work at all.

I have tried to find the MCDiag tool from Microsoft but all the links seem dead.

I have seen similar posts and tried every suggestion I could find for both PP2 and PP3 but always get the same error.  One Media Center computer is a Core 2 Q6600 with 4GB and Windows 7 x64 build 7201 and another getting the same error is a Core i7 920 with 3GB with the same Windows build.

I have tried the registry fix, uninstalling PP2 and PP3 each separately but nothing works.

This is my first post so if I need to supply more info please let me know.

    Any help PLEASE???

  • Cybin,

I suppose you tried uninstalling and the re-installing the Media Connector?
Could be that this is special for build 7201.

I am not sure, but I think this may be an issue caused by the fact that WHS with PP3 beta still reports itself as beeing PP2. On my Windows 7RC client the toolkit troubleshooter also reports a version mismatch (Server Version: 6.0.2030.0, Client Version: 6.0.2361.0). I think I may have had a warning on this when installing the connector. Apart from this both Client Connector and Media connector are doing fine on my 7RC box.

I would suggest to report this to MS Connect so the WHS Team can have a look at this?

  • Please install PP3 on your server again. What steps have you done exactly?
Then verify that PP3 is on your WHS:

Open the Windows Home Server Console

    ·         Click Settings

    ·         Click Resources

Once Power Pack 3 Beta has been installed, the version information will be 6.0.2361.
Note:  It will still state “Windows Home Server with Power Pack 2” in the upper window.
Windows Home Server Drive Extender will show as version 6.0.2030.

  • I had originally tried the Media center connector with PP2 and had no luck.  At that point I looked at the event viewer and found the protocol mismatch message.  At that point it showed the client as 6.0.2030.2 and the server as 6.0.2030.0.

I had removed PP2 and then reinstalled with no luck, so I pretty much gave up.

When I got the beta for PP3, I tried again thinking that it might have fixed the problem.  Same error except this time it had the client as 6.0.2361.0 and the server as 6.0.2030.0.

I also tried the WHS toolkit 64-bit.  The only error message I got was this difference in versions 6.0.2030.0 and 6.0.2361.0.  I tried uninstalling the connector software and running it from a version copied from the //server/software/Home Server Connector Software folder and still got the same error.

I checked in the client computer registry for the Ident key as mentioned in other posts and found that it was there and the value was 6.0.

I have checked the the resources tab on the Home server console and it shows 6.0.2361 for everything except drive extender which is still 6.0.2030.

I have tried removing PP3 and reinstalling it.

Everytime I end up with the same error.  I did read in another post that people have been having trouble using the Media Center Connector in builds later than the RC, so I have redownloaded build 7100 and was considering reinstalling that but I would rather not.

If there are any other suggestions I would appreciate it.  Thanks.
