Call from 206.395.3028

    Question

  • Received a call today from this number asking if we would voluntarily participate in an audit of our Microsoft licenses.  I have no problem doing this since we are compliant.  We have had issues with scammers trying to get information from us so I'm leery of phone calls of this nature.  I didn't give him my email address (which I would think he would have since HE called me), but I did ask for his ... v_mumaya@microsoft.com   ... was this a legitimate phone call?

  • I have never heard of Microsoft calling anyone unsolicited. I would be leery as well. 206 is the area code for Seattle, but I would try to find out if v_mumaya is a real employee, and how did they get your phone number and know that you have volume licenses.

I just searched on the Microsoft site for a few MS employee emails I know and found the people easily. That doesn't mean this isn't a real Microsoft employee, but.

  • I agree with Richard - I doubt this is legitimate.

If you have a TAM, I'd reach out to him or her, and ask if it's legitimate.
