Vista Windows Update - error #8024402C RRS feed

    Hi,

I have OneCare installed on Vista Ultimate.

When I try to run windows update, and the firewall's up, I get the error code 8024402C. If I take the firewall down, I can update fine.

Disabling the firewall also allows me to update Windows Defender definitions, which otherwise can't update (just timeout eventually).

    Ideas?

  • The first thing that you need to do is stop enabling Windows Defender and trying to update it. Windows Defender's protection is included in OneCare, so it is disabled by OneCare when it is installed.

The error you are encountering means that something is preventing access to the Windows Update servers. Since the OneCare firewall is apparently involved, it would appear that you actually have something else conflicting with the OneCare firewall and causing the problem as the OneCare firewall, by default, will not block the WU connection.

And, if you have other security software installed and active, perhaps left over from before you installed OneCare, remove it. If you need help, contact OneCare support.
