Windows live product key RRS feed

  • Question

  • I went through and installed the windows live onceare disk and  set it up with my live id and everything. However, it never asked me for my product key. It says that it is running fine and my pc is in good condition. Why would it not ask for my product key. I bought a new physical copy of it. Is it fine? how do I enter the key now?

  • HI!

You should activate your product key.
    (1) Go to onecare.live.com--> on the left pane of the screen click on ACTIVATE A PRODUCT KEY
    or
    (2) On the main page of Windows Live onecare, click on the activate or subscribe button, sign-in with yous live id and password, then just follow the onscreen instructions

  • You installed with a LiveID that already has an active subscription, which is why you were not asked for a key. You cannot renew with a key any longer, so if your intent is to get 12 more months, you will need to reinstall and use a different LiveID to create a new subscription.

  • NO, I never have used live onecare before. This is the first time. earlier today I took the other advice and went to the website to activate and it went through. So, I now have activated it with the key. it just did not aske for it when installing. once again, I had a liveid from hotmail and xbox, but had never used onecare before. It should be fine now though. I got a email for activating it.

  • Thanks for the clarfication, Mustang_greg. I jumped to an incorrect conclusion based on your initial post.
When you install OneCare from disc or download, it will always be in Trial mode. You need to click the subscribe link within OneCare to activate the subscription, which prompts you for your LiveID and then either recognizes your existing subscription or asks you for payment information. If you don't already have a subscription, you are presented with the choice to pay by credit card or provide a retail key.
The alternative activation path is the one that you took, going to the web site, activating the subscription with your retail key, and then logging in via the OneCare activation wizard.

In any event, glad that you were able to get the subscription started.
