Bar width in chart

  I was making a bar chart.  I selected the data and I had one entry per month.  At that point the chart looked fine as I would expect it to.  The date displayed correctly and the actual vertical bar was nice and wide.  I then added two more entries for the next two months.  This time the chart changed.  The vertical bars representing the data became very thin.  I thought that perhaps I needed to enlarge the size of the chart.  I grabbed a corner and enlarged it.  Still the bars were razor thin.  I don't know what it is that I must be doing wrong.  If someone knows and can tell me I would appreciate it.
