Trouble installing CRM 4 Roles on Windows 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I am trying to install to servers with CRM 4.. Their OS is both Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. On one of the servers I like to install the application roles and on the other the deplaoyment role. For both servers I have configured a setup config xml file. Trying to run the the setupserver command returns the following error:

    Error parsing config file(HRESULT = 0x800C0006)

    Any advice on troubleshooting?

    I use the following command:

    .\SetupServer.exe /L D:\Log\crm4setup.log /config D:\Config\CRM4DepSetup.xml

    Content of CRM4DepSetup (hidden license, password and servernames)

        <Patch update="false"/>
        <Database create="false"/>
        <WebsiteUrl Create="true"/>
        <InstallDir>D:\Program Files\Microsoft CRM</InstallDir>
          <Role name="DeploymentService"/>
        <SQM optin="false"/>
        <CrmServiceAccount type="DomainUser">

  • Hello Lassaad,

    Thanks for the link, I reassured that all requirements were met, I did not leave out one.

    No change ins setupserver behaviour.

     Funny thing is that when I do not use a configuration xml file and run the CRM setup with it's full GUI wizard, everything installs just fine, but to my understanding the full GUI wizard does not let me differentiate all the roles, so I can only choose for Application or Platform server.

  • It looks like your configuration file is missing the Organization information - I think you need to include this if you specify not to create the database - i.e. if you have <Database create="false"/>

  • Hello David,

    Your half right because I gave only half of the information. The first server is creating the database but it receives the same error when running setup. Should I add <Organization>CRM</Organization> to the Deployment server config xml file?\

     The first server uses:

    <Patch update="false"/>
    <Database create="true"/>
    <Reporting URL="http://XX-mps-XX/ReportServer"/>
    <basecurrency isocurrencycode="EUR" currencyname="EURO" currencysymbol="EUR"/>
    <InstallDir>"D:\Program Files\Microsoft CRM"</InstallDir>
    <CrmServiceAccount type="NetworkService"></CrmServiceAccount>
    <SQM optin="false"/>
      <IncomingExchangeServer name="XX-XXX-XX"/>
    <ifdsettings enabled="true">
